My Personal Experience Onboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s Brand-New Ship the Luna: Q&A Edition

In March 2026, one of our Boscov’s Travel employees went on an inaugural cruise onboard the brand-new Norwegian Luna! Read her incredible experience below:

Norwegian Luna

Q: With Norwegian Luna being the newest Prima Plus class ship, was this your first time sailing with NCL or have you experienced their other classes? – A: This was not my first time cruising with Norwegian. My NCL journey actually started about 12 years ago when I sailed to the Bahamas on the Norwegian Breakaway with my husband’s extended family—a group ranging from an 11-month-old to 65+. More recently, in April 2025, I enjoyed a two-night preview of the Norwegian Aqua (the Luna’s sister ship), where the ship stayed docked for the event.

Q: Where did you sail from and where did you go? – A: We sailed from Miami, Florida to Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island in the Bahamas. On my last cruise, we actually had to skip this stop because rough seas made tendering impossible. This time, however, we finally got to experience the island thanks to the new pier—no more tendering required!

Balcony Stateroom

Balcony Stateroom

Balcony Stateroom

Q: The Luna features some upgraded stateroom designs, which category did you stay in and how was the space? – A: We stayed in a forward-facing balcony cabin and it was very spacious and well equipped. There is nice space under the bed to store your luggage and three closets (two with sliding doors and one open) to store your clothing and personal belongings. Truthfully, the bed was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in.

Q: What did you love most about the ship? – A: I absolutely loved the decor and layout of the ship. In my opinion, the Prima Plus class is the perfect size—neither too big nor too small. Because this series was built in Italy, you can see many luxurious touches in the finishes. The dining experiences were equally impressive; the food was truly phenomenal.

Q: If you had to describe the “personality” of the Luna in just three words, what would they be? – A: Glamorous, Playful and Immersive.

Norwegian Luna Hull Art: “La Luna

Q: The hull art is stunning! Did you learn anything about the artist, ELLE, or the meaning behind the “La Luna” mural on the bow? – A: The story behind the Norwegian Luna’s hull art is fascinating. NCL commissioned world-renowned street artist ELLE to create the bow mural, titled “La Luna.” She designed the piece to represent the magnetic pull of the moon—a symbol of curiosity, emotion, and adventure. By blending dreamlike imagery with flowing cosmic shapes, the art perfectly captures the romance of the sea. If you look closely, you’ll even find intricate constellations woven into the design, serving as a beautiful tribute to the wonder of a starlit night at sea.

Hasuki

Q: Which restaurant on the Luna is a “must-visit” for future cruisers? – A: I especially loved the atmosphere at Hasuki—and the food was incredibly fresh and flavorful, too. The chef provides such fun, playful entertainment, all while preparing your dinner right before your eyes.

 Indulge Food Hall

Q: The Luna introduced new dining concepts like Sukhothai (Thai) and the Indulge Food Hall. Did you get a chance to try these new additions? – A: I was able to experience the Indulge Food Hall. Personally, the logistics of getting your food aren’t my favorite, but I loved the idea of trying dishes from different parts of the world. The food really was great.

Vibe Beach Club

Q: From the Observation Lounge to the Metropolitan Bar, where was your favorite spot to grab a signature cocktail? – A: My favorite spot for a cocktail was the Vibe Beach Club. Imagine an adults-only outdoor oasis with comfortable loungers and the sun on your face—add a Mango Meltdown in your hand, and you have the perfect, relaxing atmosphere.

Aqua Slidecoaster

Q: Let’s talk thrills! Did you brave the new Aqua Slidecoaster or The Drop dry-slide? – A: ’m always up for a little thrill, so I absolutely tried the Aqua Slidecoaster and The Drop. On the Luna, the Aqua Slidecoaster felt faster through the tunnels than the one on the Aqua, which I thought was a nice update. The Drop was also super fun—I love it when adults can feel like kids again!

ELTON: A Celebration of Elton John™

Q: Between the Broadway-style theater and the interactive venues, what was your absolute favorite entertainment experience? – A: The high-energy Elton John tribute was my favorite entertainment experience, with the Eagles tribute coming in a close second. It was really neat to see how they incorporated real footage of Elton into the show; the talent of the performers was truly exceptional.

Tee Time

Q: Was there a specific “Luna Exclusive” feature or technology you’ve never seen on any other ship before? – A: Although I didn’t get to try it myself, the Swirl Wine Bar offers a virtual reality wine tour that several people onboard raved about. I also really enjoyed the interactive mini-golf course, Tee Time, which uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) golf balls to automatically track your strokes. Another cool find: some of the bars, like the Whiskey Bar, are experimenting with ‘clear cocktails.’ They use the exact flavors of traditional drinks—so your Bloody Mary tastes authentic, but looks crystal clear!

Q: Is there any “insider secret” about the ship that passengers might miss if they don’t know where to look? – A: I really appreciated the water bottle filling stations in the buffet—the water is actually chilled and refreshing. They’ve also upgraded the traditional buffet pizza with a wood-fire oven, which makes a huge difference in quality. One quick insider tip: the bathroom waste cans are tucked inside the cabinet doors to save space, so don’t be confused if you don’t see one on the floor!

Great Stirrup Cay Pier

Q: You mentioned you visited Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island. How has the island experience evolved with the new pier and amenities? – A: Being able to walk straight onto the island without tendering is a huge upgrade for Great Stirrup Cay, making the transition on and off the ship a total breeze. My favorite spot was the 28,000-square-foot heated pool, which features a swim-up bar and plenty of room to either swim or lounge the day away.

Pool at Great Stirrup Cay

Q: We know there’s a new tram system on the island. How easy was it to get around to places like Silver Cove or the Vibe Shore Club? – A: The tram is a great addition for getting around the island. From the welcome center, you can hop on a tram that takes you to several key locations. It’s worth noting that to reach Silver Cove or Vibe Shore Club, you currently need to transfer to a second tram. After a full day onshore, using the tram to avoid the steep incline of the bridge on the way back is a total lifesaver!

Q: Is there anything else we did not discuss that you would like to mention? – A: Based on feedback from previous Prima-class ships, NCL made some brilliant design updates to the Norwegian Luna. They added a new exterior staircase that connects the pool deck to the top decks—a smart move that means you no longer have to cut through the buffet. They also increased the number of interior staircases to improve guest flow and accessibility. Best of all, the beloved ‘fish’ are back on the stateroom hallway carpets to help you easily find which direction is forward!

Norwegian Luna Inaugural Sailing Welcome Sign

Q: Would you sail on the Luna again? – A: Yes! I have always been a fan of the Norwegian Cruise Line brand. They consistently provide an excellent cruise vacation and a fantastic overall value.

Theme Park Destinations in the United States

Walt Disney World Resort (Florida) & Disneyland Resort (California)

You simply can’t talk about theme parks without the one that started it all. While Disneyland in California offers a charming, walkable experience rich in history, Walt Disney World in Florida is a massive resort featuring four distinct parks. From the immersive storytelling of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to the cultural celebrations at EPCOT, these parks remain the gold standard for family vacations.

Universal Orlando Resort (Florida) & Universal Studios Hollywood (California)

For those who want to “ride the movies,” Universal is a must. Between the Orlando and Hollywood locations, you can step directly into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ or encounter dinosaurs in Jurassic World. Both coasts feature the incredibly interactive Super Nintendo World™, ensuring that whether you are on the Atlantic or the Pacific, these cinematic thrills consistently deliver for the whole family.

LEGOLAND (Florida & California)

Specifically designed for families with younger children, both the Florida and California locations allow kids to take the lead in a world built entirely from their imagination. With rides that kids can “drive” themselves and incredible displays built from millions of bricks, these parks offer a “right-sized” adventure. It is the perfect introductory theme park experience for toddlers and elementary-aged explorers who are ready for their first big adventure.

SeaWorld Orlando & Busch Gardens Tampa Bay (Florida)

You’ll often see these two parks paired together because they are sister parks, meaning you can often find great multi-park ticket deals to visit both! If you are looking for a mix of family-friendly thrills and marine life education, SeaWorld Orlando is a fantastic choice. For those seeking “Coaster Capital” energy, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is hard to beat, with a legendary lineup of rides for adrenaline seekers. Both parks also provide a unique perspective on wildlife conservation and rescue, making them a great option for families who love animals as much as they love high-speed adventure.

Cedar Point (Ohio)

Known as “The Roller Coaster Capital of the World,” this park sits on a peninsula on Lake Erie in Ohio. It is a destination for anyone who loves heights, speed, and lakefront views, featuring an extensive collection of rides. From steep drops to high-speed launches, it remains a top choice for travelers who want to experience the variety of modern coaster engineering and adrenaline.

Dollywood (Tennessee)

Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, Dollywood is a breath of fresh air. It is consistently voted one of the friendliest parks in the world, blending world-class roller coasters with incredible food and genuine Southern hospitality. This park is perfect for those who want to balance high-speed thrills with award-winning live entertainment and a beautiful, relaxed mountain setting that truly feels like home.

International Theme Park Destinations

If you’re looking to travel abroad, these international theme parks offer a unique and memorable guest experience.

Tokyo DisneySea (Japan)

This theme park is widely considered the most beautiful one in the world, and with the recent opening of Fantasy Springs, guests can now explore highly detailed lands dedicated to Frozen, Tangled, and Peter Pan. Known for its unique nautical themes and incredible attention to detail, it offers a more sophisticated atmosphere that balances classic Disney charm with breathtaking, one-of-a-kind engineering and storytelling.

Universal Studios (Japan)

Located in Osaka, this park offers a vibrant energy and unique attractions you won’t find anywhere else. While it shares favorites like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter™, it is home to a much larger Super Nintendo World with additional interactive levels. It also hosts exclusive seasonal events that bring world-famous Japanese cartoons and pop culture to life through unique 4-D movies and high-tech rides that aren’t found in the other Universal parks.

Disneyland Paris (France)

Located just a short train ride from the heart of the city, this park offers a uniquely European take on the classic Disney magic. It is home to what many consider the most beautiful Sleeping Beauty Castle in the world, complete with a slumbering dragon hidden in the cavern below. With the addition of the high-tech Marvel Avengers Campus and a more thrilling version of Space Mountain, it provides a perfect blend of nostalgic storytelling and modern adrenaline.

Europa-Park (Germany)

Located in Rust, Germany, Europa-Park features over 100 attractions themed after different European countries. It’s like a high-speed version of a world tour, where you can experience a “Swiss” bobsled run or a “French” dark ride all in one afternoon. It even has its own EPCOT sphere that looks very similar to the one in Walt Disney World. The park is also known for its wide variety of food and themed resort hotels that reflect the different cultures of the continent.

Efteling (Netherlands)

If you enjoy the “story” part of a theme park, Efteling is a great stop. Based on ancient myths and legends, this park is one of the oldest in the world and is known for its “Fairytale Forest” and detailed dark rides. It offers a relaxed, magical atmosphere that is different from the typical busy park day.

2. Exotic: Japan

The Experience: Ancient Traditions Meet Modern Marvels

Expert Insight: Japan is more accessible than ever in 2026. With airfares trending lower than in previous years, it’s the ideal time to explore the neon-lit streets of Tokyo and the serene temples of Kyoto. What makes Japan truly exotic is the profound sense of discovery found in its details—from the intricate, pagoda-style architecture to the quiet mystery of a hidden mountain shrine. Travelers can enjoy a seamless blend of the ultra-modern and the deeply traditional, from riding the lightning-fast Shinkansen bullet trains to participating in a quiet tea ceremony in a centuries-old garden. It offers a cultural immersion that is truly unlike anywhere else on Earth.

3. Adventurous: Costa Rica

The Experience: Biodiversity & Active Exploration

Expert Insight: Costa Rica is a playground for the senses. From the towering Arenal Volcano to “cloud treks” through the misty canopy of Monteverde, the variety of activity is unmatched. It is the perfect destination for travelers who want to see exotic wildlife in their natural habitat.

Expect to see different species of monkeys—from the vocal Howler monkeys to the curious White-Faced Capuchins—swinging through the trees. Along the coast and in the rainforests, you can spot slow-moving sloths tucked into the branches and vibrant Scarlet Macaws or Keel-Billed Toucans flying overhead. Whether you are zip-lining over forests or soaking in natural hot springs, adventure and wildlife encounters are built into every day of the itinerary.

4. Relax and Recharge: Fiji

The Experience: Ultimate Seclusion & Tropical Serenity

Expert Insight: While Fiji requires a long-haul flight, the reward is total peace and world-class relaxation. You are transported to some of the world’s most secluded beaches, far from the bustle of daily life and crowded tourist hubs. It is a destination where time seems to slow down, allowing you to fully unplug. For travelers looking to truly reset, the private island feel and crystal-clear turquoise waters of Fiji offer a level of serenity that is worth every mile of the journey.

5. Off-the-Beaten-Path: Patagonia

The Experience: Raw Wilderness & Untamed Beauty

Expert Insight: For those who have already checked the “major” landmarks off their list, Patagonia offers a rugged, awe-inspiring frontier that feels refreshingly undiscovered. Spanning the southern tips of Chile and Argentina, this region is for the traveler who finds peace in glaciers, jagged granite peaks, and the quiet of the great outdoors.

However, the experience goes beyond the scenery; you can immerse yourself in the legendary Gaucho (cowboy) culture at a traditional local estancia (ranch). Here, the “slow food” lifestyle comes to life through authentic open-fire barbecues—where local lamb is roasted for hours—perfectly paired with bold regional wines. It’s a place that balances spiky mountain landscapes with sophisticated frontier hospitality.

6. Entertaining: New Cruise Ships

The Experience: Cutting-Edge Innovation & World-Class Shows

Expert Insight: 2026 is a landmark year for cruising, where the ship itself becomes the center of the entertainment. With the recent launch of ships like Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas and Norwegian Cruise Line’s Aqua, travelers can enjoy a city-like atmosphere at sea. These vessels offer Broadway-caliber entertainment, record-breaking water activities, and an incredible array of specialty dining that ensures travelers of all ages are constantly captivated. It is the perfect choice for those looking for non-stop excitement and luxury on the water.

7. Nature Lovers: Norway

The Experience: Majestic Fjords & Refreshing Climates

Expert Insight: We often recommend Norway as the “next step” for those who loved their Alaska cruise but are looking for a new perspective on natural beauty. The landscape here features deep, emerald-green fjords carved by ancient glaciers and dramatic mountains that rise straight from the sea. Nature lovers can experience the phenomenon of the Midnight Sun in the summer months, providing nearly 24 hours of daylight to explore pristine waterfalls and remote coastal villages. Visitors can wander the colorful, historic wharf of Bergen or sail through the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Geirangerfjord. It is the ultimate escape for those who prefer cooler, refreshing temperatures and a landscape that feels like a quiet, untouched world of pure natural wonder.

8. Metropolitan: London

The Experience: Seamless Urban Exploration

Expert Insight: London is an ideal city for those who love a metropolitan pace but appreciate easy navigation. The subway system (the “Tube”) is remarkably easy to use, making it simple to pack your day with West End plays, world-renowned museums, and historic landmarks like the Tower of London without the stress of logistics. For a classic experience, you can hop on an iconic red double-decker bus to see the city from a different perspective as you cruise past Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. From high-end shopping to historic charm, London offers a diverse big-city experience that is both accessible and exciting for every type of traveler.

9. Historical & Cultural: Rome

The Experience: A Living Museum

Expert Insight: In Rome, history isn’t tucked away behind glass; it’s on every street corner. The entire city functions as an open-air museum, offering a profound connection to the past for any culture seeker. You can enjoy a gelato while standing in the shadow of the Pantheon or walk the same stones as gladiators at the Colosseum.

Beyond the monuments, Rome offers a sensory journey into the Italian way of life. You can spend your afternoons exploring the vine-covered alleyways of the Trastevere neighborhood or dining at authentic trattorias that serve world-class pasta and local wines. It is an incredible choice for travelers who want to immerse themselves in history, art, architecture, and a vibrant food culture that has been perfected over centuries.

10. Event-Based: USA America250 Celebrations

The Experience: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Patriotic Milestone

Expert Insight: 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the United States, turning the country into a massive venue for historic events. The center of the action is at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., which will host the Great American State Fair—a month-long festival featuring local food and exhibits from all 50 states. Along the coast, the Sail250® tour will bring a fleet of over 60 international tall ships and military vessels into harbors including Philadelphia, Norfolk, Boston, New Orleans, and New York & New Jersey.

The celebrations extend deep into the heart of the country as well. In the Midwest, Mount Rushmore is planning a rare, signature fireworks display to mark the milestone. On the West Coast, cities like Seattle and Los Angeles are preparing cultural festivals that honor the diverse history of the Pacific.

For sports fans, this patriotic milestone perfectly aligns with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with cities like Philadelphia and New York hosting major matches throughout the summer. Whether you are watching record-breaking fireworks or exploring newly renovated galleries at the Smithsonian, 2026 is the premier year to experience these once-in-a-lifetime American celebrations.

Our Personal Experience Onboard Royal Caribbean International’s Brand-New Star of the Seas: Q&A Edition

In August 2025, members of our team went on an inaugural cruise onboard Royal Caribbean International’s brand-new Star of the Seas! Read their incredible experience below:

Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas

Q: Was this your first time sailing on Royal Caribbean? – A: All of us have sailed on Royal Caribbean before, but we were all very excited to experience the Star of the Seas – one of the largest cruise ships in the world – for ourselves.

Q: Where did you sail to and from? – A: We sailed roundtrip from Port Canaveral (Orlando), FL to Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas.

Q: What stateroom did you stay in? – A: We each had Balcony staterooms, and they were great! The room felt very spacious and well-appointed, giving us plenty of room to move around comfortably throughout the entire sailing. A nice bonus was the bathroom’s shower which was large enough to be comfortable and even featured a built-in seat!

Balcony Stateroom

Q: How did you feel about the Star of the Seas being one of the biggest cruise ships in the world? Could you tell? – A: This was our first time sailing on a Royal Caribbean ship of this magnitude. Some of us were not sure how we would like a ship as large as the Icon Class, but we were actually extremely impressed! Although the ship is so big, it is truly one of the most well-designed ships we’ve sailed on. We all agreed that even though the ship holds many passengers, we never felt crowded. It was a great experience!

Q: What did you love most about the ship? – A: This may seem like a small detail, but we really loved the amount of deck space compared to other ships. Whether we wanted to unwind by the pool, enjoy a quiet drink, or simply relax – the ship offered endless places to choose from.

Chill Island

Q: What surprised you most about the ship? – A: The ship’s elevator system and technology were simply incredible – we can’t praise it enough! A key feature is the central hub of twelve elevators, which was never overcrowded. The secret? When you need a ride, you use a touch screen to select your desired floor. The screen then directs you to a specific elevator with a letter prompt, and once inside, your work is done! There are no buttons to press, you just wait for your floor to be announced. This technology sets a new standard and makes the cruise ship elevator experience effortless and efficient.

Q: What was your favorite dining onboard? – A: Dining onboard was a massive hit! Everyone raved about the Main Dining Room’s food and service. For a more casual bite, we found “the best Smashburger ever” at Basecamp, located in Thrill Island. And don’t forget the Windjammer Café (buffet), which offers incredible choices for every meal and snack, including luxurious options like lobster and steak!

Food from Windjammer Café

Q: What was your favorite bar onboard? – A: The Pub was a favorite for its atmosphere – the decor genuinely felt like an authentic Irish pub. We appreciated the live music and cold Guinness on draft. The Lime & Coconut was also unmatched. It’s conveniently located by the pool, serves delicious cocktails, and hosts live DJs and musicians who keep the energy high throughout the day.

The Lime & Coconut

Q: What was your favorite entertainment onboard? – A: The general consensus is the onboard entertainment was truly spectacular! We all thoroughly enjoyed Back to the Future: the Musical, which was nothing short of amazing. The cast was very talented and the set was incredible (topped with a flying DeLorean)! A true blast from the past.

Back to the Future: the Musical

Q: What other shows did you attend? – A: We attended two other shows. The ice show, SOL, was a highly immersive and captivating experience. Then, switching gears to water, Torque at the AquaTheater was pure adrenaline and filled with breathtaking stunts by exceptionally skilled divers. Make sure you get to shows early even if you have a reservation to guarantee seats with your group.

SOL (Ice Show)

Q: What other activities did you do onboard and which was your favorite? – A: The ship provided endless ways to spend the day. For a wholesome highlight, we were excited to meet Sailor, the ship’s adorable canine mascot. Thrill-seekers will love the immense collection of waterslides (major thrills guaranteed!). If gaming is your style, the Casino was huge, offering plenty of machines and tables.

Waterslides

Q: You mentioned you sailed to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas. What do you want to share about the port? – A: Perfect Day at CocoCay was absolutely amazing, offering diverse experiences we all thoroughly enjoyed.

We loved exploring the differences between the beach areas, particularly the exclusive Hideaway Beach Club. This adults-only oasis features beautiful white sand and clear, calm ocean water. Please know that the club has continuous, loud party music, so if you are looking for a quieter experience, we’d recommend other parts of the island.

The island’s public spaces were just as incredible as the beaches, offering amazing atmosphere and convenience. We also really enjoyed the Oasis Lagoon Bar. It had a beautifully thatched roof and spectacular Polynesian-style furnishings, creating an atmosphere that felt like an exotic escape. This bar is especially convenient as it serves guests both as a swim-up bar and an on-land bar. The design details made all the common areas very fun and appealing.

We got our adrenaline fix at the Thrill Waterpark. The waterslides are amazing, delivering major thrills. We highly recommend arriving early to beat the crowds and enjoy the fun without long lines.

Q: Is there anything else we did not discuss that you would like to mention? – A: Yes!

– Getting on and off the ship was an absolute breeze. The process was incredibly smooth, thanks to two dedicated escalators from the main promenade that took guests directly to the disembarkation level. The fact that moving thousands of guests is easier on the world’s largest ship than on most others we’ve sailed on is a true testament to the ship’s design.

– Even the public restrooms onboard were high-tech! They featured touchless entry and exit. You just waved your hand by the door, and it opened – a brilliant feature for hygiene and convenience.

Q: Would you sail on the Star of the Seas again? – A: One hundred times – yes! The ship is perfect for singles, multigenerational families, couples – everyone! There’s truly something for all onboard.

An Insider’s Perspective: Exploring Mexico’s Leading All-Inclusive Resorts with a Boscov’s Travel Advisor

In June 2025, one of our Boscov’s Travel Advisors had the opportunity to travel to Mexico to be part of the ALG Mega FAM trip. Read about their experiences below:

Hacienda, a shared area of shops and entertainment

Q: What is a MEGA FAM? – A:  A MEGA FAM is a large, educational trip designed for travel advisors to experience destinations, resorts, and activities firsthand—so they can better understand what they’re selling to their clients.

For this trip specifically it was called, “Pros on the Go,” a MEGA FAM hosted by Apple Leisure Group Vacations (ALGV). It brought together 150 travel advisors, who were split into small groups and stayed at eight different resorts. This allowed them to explore a variety of properties and get a true feel for each one.

Before the main event, there was also a special “Pre-FAM” in Tulum for 19 chosen top advisors, offering a more exclusive experience. Along with tours and experiences, the MEGA FAM included a full day of professional development, giving advisors valuable training to sharpen their skills. In short, it’s a hands-on, high-impact learning trip that helps travel professionals become even more knowledgeable when planning the perfect vacation for their clients.

ALG Pros on the Go group

Q: Was this your first time in Mexico? – A: Not at all! I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Mexico at least 11 times, including four trips just in the past year and a half. Each visit has offered something new—whether it’s exploring a different region, diving deeper into the culture, or simply enjoying the incredible food and hospitality. It’s a country I always look forward to returning to.

Amy: Camp Hill Boscov’s Travel Advisor

Q: What resorts were you able to see/explore during this trip? – A: On this MEGA FAM I toured the following properties (15 total):

Dreams Tulum; Secrets Tulum (and their beach club); Grand Bahia Coba; Grand Bahia Tulum; Grand Bahia Akumal; Bahia Sian Ka’an; Dreams Sapphire (and Club Indigo); Hyatt Ziva Riviera Maya; Hyatt Zilara Riviera Cancun; Hyatt Vivid Grand Island; Riu Palace Mexico; El Dorado Royale; El Dorado Casitas; Generations; Iberostar Selection Cancun.

Hyatt Ziva pool and grounds

Q: Which resort surprised you the most and why? – A: Hyatt Zilara (formerly Secrets Capri): The resort was absolutely beautiful—elegant yet relaxed, with a layout that made it easy to navigate without feeling overwhelmed. Being an adults-only property added to the peaceful, upscale atmosphere. One of the standout features was the variety of dining options available. They offered everything from casual bites to more refined meals which made it easy to find something delicious no matter the craving. Overall, it was a perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and luxury.

Hyatt Zilara beachside restaurant

Q: Out of the resorts you went to, which would be your top recommendation for couples? – A: Secrets Tulum – The new adults-only Secrets Tulum was absolutely incredible. It offers a sleek, modern vibe with luxurious touches throughout, making it an ideal choice for a romantic getaway. Whether you’re planning a honeymoon or celebrating an anniversary, the atmosphere, service, and attention to detail makes the whole resort truly special.

Secrets Tulum secluded pool area

Q: What would be your top recommendation for families? – A: Dreams Sapphire – For families, Dreams Sapphire is a standout. It’s packed with activities that go well beyond the usual resort offerings including: a rock-climbing wall, archery, a bungee trampoline, a water park, a batting cage, mini golf and more. Plus, the resort has an excellent kid’s club that caters to all age groups, giving parents the perfect balance of relaxation and family fun.

Dreams Sapphire activity area for children and teens

Q: Which resort would you recommend for clients looking for a ‘party’ style resort? A: If you’re looking to party on a budget, Riu Palace Mexico is a solid choice. While the amenities are fairly basic compared to more upscale resorts, the vibrant, high-energy atmosphere more than makes up for it. It’s all about the fun here which is perfect for social travelers who want lively entertainment, music, and a great time without breaking the bank.

Q: Which resort would be your top pick for clients who want full-on relaxation? –  A: If you’re craving peace and quiet, or romance, both El Dorado Casitas and Secrets Tulum are excellent options. Each offers a laid-back, intimate vibe with beautiful surroundings and thoughtful touches. These resorts are ideal for couples looking to unwind and reconnect. Whether you’re lounging in a private cabana or enjoying a quiet dinner under the stars, these resorts create a serene escape.

Q: Did you do anything off resort properties like an excursion? – A: We had the BEST excursion with Amstar at the brand-new adventure park ATVX—and it was unforgettable! We kicked things off by tearing through the jungle on 4-wheelers, which was an adrenaline rush of its own. But the real thrill came next, a high-speed boat ride that’s definitely not for the faint of heart! It was fast, wild, and absolutely exhilarating. If you’re looking for a unique mix of adventure and excitement, this experience is a must.

Q: What was the most informational thing you learned throughout your trip? – A: One day was dedicated to trainings and seminars, and the standout session was with a professional photographer who completely blew us away. He revealed tips and features hidden in our own cell phones that most of us had no idea even existed! His presentation was not only fun and engaging, but also incredibly useful—especially when it came to using our own photos for more effective marketing. It was one of those rare sessions that was both educational and entertaining, and left everyone inspired to elevate their visual content.

Q: How likely are you to stay at any of the resorts you visited and why? – A: Over the years, I’ve had the chance to stay at several of these resorts, and it was great to see the recent renovations. They’ve really refreshed the spaces while keeping the charm of each resort intact. Since this is truly one of my favorite destinations, I’d be happy staying at almost any of the properties we visited. That being said, the Bahia complex and the Riu properties aren’t really my personal preference mainly due to differences in the overall atmosphere and what they have to offer. But everyone’s travel style is different, and that’s the beauty of having so many options in the area.

Q: What did you learn that a client wouldn’t necessarily know about all-inclusive vacations? – A:  I spend most of my days explaining to clients just how amazing all-inclusive vacations can be, but being immersed in the experience again reminded me why they’re so appealing. The biggest takeaway is how stress-free all-inclusive vacations are. From dining and drinks to activities and entertainment, everything is taken care of. Clients might not realize how much value and convenience this really offers them until they experience it firsthand. It’s a seamless way to travel with no budgeting for meals, no juggling reservations, but pure relaxation and fun. So, my advice? If you’re even thinking about it, do it!

Our Personal Experience Onboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s Brand-New Ship the Aqua: Q&A Edition

In April 2025, some of our Boscov’s Travel employees stayed onboard the brand-new Norwegian Aqua! Read their incredible experience below:

Norwegian Aqua

Q: Was this your first time on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship? – A: We had a variety of travelers with us ranging from first time cruisers – even first-time cruisers with Norwegian Cruise Line – all the way up to seasoned pros. It was really fun to watch how everyone interacted with one another. We were able to gain and give advice where needed, and of course, learn all there was to know to bring information back to our clients.

Q: What was the first thing that wowed you when you stepped onboard? – A: When stepping onto the Norwegian Aqua, we were floored/awed/taken back by the elegance and refined style of the ship, truly giving the ship a ‘modern relaxed feel.’ We noticed the lighting on the ship – even from one deck to another – really aided to the atmosphere, whether it be relaxing with a cocktail at the Belvedere Bar or bright lights shining your way around the shops. We couldn’t help but also notice how spacious and clean the ship was too. Great first impression!
Insider information: the Prima class was built in Italy, compared to the Breakaway class in Germany. We think this was smart and will aid in the ship feeling modern for years and years to come.

Penrose Atrium

Q: Describe the atmosphere and vibe of the ship in three words. – A: 1. Upscale 2. Luxurious 3. Serene

Q: What stateroom did you stay in? – A: As mentioned, we had a variety of travelers with us for this trip staying in a variety of staterooms ranging from Oceanview all the way up to a 2-Bedroom Family Villa in The Haven. Even with the variety, everyone had similar feedback that they could not believe how spacious the cabins and the bathrooms felt (a huge plus in our books)! There is ample amount of room to fit all your belongings and for them to stay organized as well.

Balcony Stateroom

Q: What was your favorite onboard entertainment? – We absolutely love the Broadway-styled shows onboard! Our top favorites were Revolution: A Celebration of Prince and Elements: The World Expanded. The latter show had incredible dancing, magic and acrobatics. The show incorporated the different elements: wind, water, fire, and even snow! Both shows had such great energy and we highly recommend them.

Aqua Theater

Q: What was your favorite restaurant onboard? What dish did you enjoy the most? – We all have our own favorite restaurant from the cruise including:

– Hasuki was a great hibachi-styled restaurant. The food was flavorful, colorful and fresh, but the headliner had to be the great entertainment from the staff preparing the food.

Hasuki

– Hudson’s Dining Room is one of the main dining rooms onboard. One of our travelers raved about the amazing menu with ‘the best braised short ribs I’ve ever had!’ And of course, crème brulee to top it off.

Hudson’s Dining Room

– Sukhothai is the new Thai restaurant onboard. We were told this restaurant was developed from a fan favorite, the Thai Cashew Chicken dish, and offers a range of authentic Thai cuisines. A lot of our group dined here one evening and had mixed reviews on whether it was worth the specialty dining cover charge or not.

Sukhothai

– Palomar is the Mediterranean restaurant onboard focusing on fresh fish and seafood. One employee dined here and had rave reviews. The floor to ceiling windows added a beautiful backdrop to the meal, service was excellent, and food was out of this world. Our recommendations are the Grilled Prawns and Greek Village Salad for appetizers, and the Filet Mignon for an entrée (the Lemon-Herb Maître d’ Butter ::drool::). We also recommend trying one of every dessert for the table with the Galaktoboureko being a surprise favorite of the table.

Palomar

Q: What was your favorite bar onboard? Was there a go to drink? – Our group had samplings from each bar onboard and tended to hop around between the Belvedere Bar, the Penrose Bar and the Local Bar & Grill. We liked the atmosphere/vibes at these bars and had plenty of space to hangout and sit. The Local Bar & Grill will be your go-to late-night spot and we recommend the cheese fries (don’t feel silly asking for 3 or 4 orders, they are on the smaller side and go fast). The weather wasn’t the best, otherwise, we would have enjoyed the multiple outdoor bars. Our go to drinks onboard – and some new fan favorites – included gin and tonics with a lime and a lemon, dark ‘n’ stormy, the classic Aperol spritz, whiskey on the rocks, etc.

Belvedere Bar

Q: What activities did you do onboard and which was your favorite? – It seemed like our group was able to cover the whole ship collectively, which was nice because for being onboard for just a day and a half, a single person wouldn’t be able to see all the offerings. Our favorite activities included the:

Sail Away Party

90s Party

Miniature Golf – Tee Time

– Pickleball

– Shooting hoops on the Glow Court

– The Improv at Sea Comedy Club

Tee Time

Pickleball Court

Glow Court

The Improv at Sea Comedy Club

Q: Was there anything on the ship you’ve never seen before? Tell us about everything new! – Mentioned above was the new Thai restaurant, Sukhothai, and Norwegian also introduced another restaurant to their Indulge Food Hall concept, Planterie, as well as Swirl. Planterie is Norwegian Cruise Line’s first dedicated plant-based venue and offers bowls and other healthy options like the Mediterranean Goddess Bowl with spiced vegetables, tabbouleh, and honey-roasted carrots, and the Southwest Bowl with smoked tempeh. Swirl is a wine lounge onboard the Aqua and offers a wine-by-the-glass menu and a selection of rare and premium vintages. This is a perfect place to cozy up to your partner and enjoy some wine together.

Indulge Food Hall

Q: How was the all-new Aqua Slidecoaster? – The Aqua Slidecoaster was so very fun and such a cool experience! The Aqua Slidecoaster is a new addition to Norwegian and is the world’s first hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide! We had a few brave souls within our group try this new activity in chilly weather (some went in clothing, some were extra brave and did it in their bathing suits). We are a thrill type of group so we collectively agreed the best part was the sendoff with the mechanical arm. After the sendoff, you then get to enjoy the standard leisure waterslide. Even if you aren’t a rollercoaster person, we still recommend trying the Aqua Slidecoaster out as it wasn’t overly intense.

Aqua Slidecoaster

View of the Aqua Slidecoaster from Vibe Beach Club

Q: What was your favorite spot to relax and unwind on the ship? –  A great place to kick back and relax is the Observation Lounge. It’s a beautiful enclosed lounge with comfortable seating to sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful views. And of course, the Penrose Atrium is the prime spot to be while enjoying a cocktail and people watching. If the weather was nicer, we would have enjoyed the Vibe Beach Club (the adults-only section onboard; admission fees apply). And if you are lucky enjoy to stay in The Haven, absolutely take advantage of the sauna and hot tubs on the sundeck.

Vibe Beach Club

Q: How was the service from the crew throughout your time onboard? – Outstanding! The crew onboard was very friendly and above and beyond accommodating. Through our trade training onboard, we learned that they select the crew based on having previous experience onboard that type of ship class. No matter what the question or request, the crew was available and eager to help.

Q: What did you love most about the ship? – It sounds cliché, but we truly loved it all. The layout, style and finishes of the ship, the spacious accommodations, the dining venues, the outdoor areas (including the infinity pools and hot tubs), the accommodating staff. We are excited to share this ship with our clients knowing they will have an enjoyable vacation on an incredible product.

Q: Would you sail on the Aqua again? – Absolutely.

My Personal Experience Onboard Royal Caribbean International’s Brand-New Icon of the Seas: Q&A Edition

In January 2024, one of our Boscov’s Travel employees went on an inaugural cruise onboard Royal Caribbean International’s Brand-New Icon of the Seas! Read her incredible experience below:

Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas

Q: Was this your first time sailing on Royal Caribbean? – A: It was! Working in the Marketing Department, I’ve been promoting Royal Caribbean to our clients for 11+ years and was so excited to be able to experience the product for myself.

Q: Where did you sail to and from? – A: We sailed from the Port of Miami, FL to Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas.

Q: What stateroom did you stay in? – A: We stayed in an Infinite Veranda. This stateroom type can be found when you sail with both Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises. It takes the traditional balcony (with door and outdoor seating) and turns your stateroom into part of the balcony with a floor to ceiling window that opens halfway. I personally LOVE this type of stateroom as it really extends the length of the room and who doesn’t love sleeping with fresh wind blowing in from the sea?

Infinite Veranda stateroom

Q: How did you feel about the Icon of the Seas being the biggest cruise ship in the world? Could you tell? – A: The bigger the better, in my opinion. I know speaking with a lot of friends and family, they said “it would be too big for me”, but honestly, every inch of the ship is so thoughtfully designed that it never felt overwhelming. If you love the Oasis class ships, the Icon of the Seas is similar, but just slightly on steroids. And of course, who doesn’t love a ship that is shiny and new?

Q: What did you love most about the ship? – A: A WOW moment for me was walking out of the elevators on deck 16 into Chill Island and looking several stories down into Central Park. It gives you a unique vantage point of the center of the ship and all the beautiful live foliage they brought (and maintain!) onboard. I’m a thrill over chill type of person so I also really loved the waterslides onboard. Also, the entertainment and dining experiences onboard were expertly crafted too!

Chill Island looking into Central Park

Q: What surprised you most about the ship? – A: Even though it is the biggest cruise ship in the world, it truly did not feel overwhelming. There are so many nooks and crannies on where you could go and never felt “crowded”. The new elevator system was a pleasant surprise to say the least. Instead of everyone going into the elevator and choosing a deck, you choose the deck you want to go to from a kiosk. A letter is given on the kiosk which corresponds to an elevator to go to. In my opinion, this is brilliant engineering to move many people without the common backlog at the elevators, especially after shows.

Elevator Kiosk

Q: There are five new neighborhoods on this ship. Can we talk about each of them?

Q: The Aqua Dome –  A: A sensory delight. Enjoy lounging, entertainment and dining with unique and dazzling ocean views.

Q: Chill Island – A: Pools, hot tubs, swim-up bar – need I say more?

Q: Thrill Island – A: Waterslides, mini-golf, rock climbing, Crown’s Edge – thrill seekers unite and adults feel like kids again.

Thrill Island

Q: The Hideaway – A: Adults-only area on the back of the ship with a suspended pool and wrap around bar.

Q: Surfside – A: My kids would have loved this neighborhood. Some adjectives that come to mind are delightful, colorful and fun.

Surfside

Q: What was your favorite restaurant onboard? – A:

Q: Complimentary? – A: I LOVED dinner in the main dining room, it was delicious to say the least. My favorite complimentary grab and go has to be El Loco Fresh because who couldn’t eat tacos every day of the week? The chips and salsa varieties were great and they had really good margaritas. We also love grabbing breakfast from the Park Café. They had a lot of great grab and go items (loved the parfaits) and also some made-to-order breakfast items (loved the ham, egg and cheese on an English muffin). The coffee was great too!

Q: Specialty? – A: Since we sailed on an inaugural sailing, a lot of the specialty restaurants were not available to us, but we did get to sample the food at Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade. Playmakers offers all your favorite comfort foods and has a fun sports bar vibe to it including retro video games, a pool and foosball table and a few arcade games. This was probably the most crowded spot onboard as it was during football season and the only place onboard to see the playoff games.

Q: What was your favorite bar onboard? – A: Some of the bars are located in the Promenade and we had a lot of fun bar hopping. The Schooner Bar had a nice laid-back atmosphere and was beautiful. But our favorite bar had to have been 1400 which had a lot of fun cocktails and a signature martini with a blown bubble.

Q: What was your favorite entertainment onboard? – A: My favorite entertainment onboard had to be The Wizard of Oz. This Broadway hit musical was filled with so much talent, color, props, backgrounds, songs, dances and brought back everything you love about the movie. It truly was incredible to see!

The Wizard of Oz

Q: How many shows did you attend? – A: We saw three preview shows on our three-night cruise and included The Wizard of Oz, Elemental Beauty (ice skating) and Aqua Action! (aqua show)

Elemental Beauty (ice skating)

Aqua Action! (aqua show)

Q: What other activities did you do onboard and which was your favorite? – A: We truly had fun exploring every inch of the ship and some highlights included winning a bronze medal in a glow-in-the-dark mini golf competition, winning some money in the casino, working up a sweat in the gym and running the track onboard. We also spent a good amount of time visiting every type of stateroom onboard and loved seeing everything from an Interior stateroom all the way up to the Ultimate Family suite.

Mini Golf

Fitness Center

Q: There are seven pools onboard, which one did you enjoy the most and why? – A: Hands down the Hideaway Pool was my favorite. For adults 18+, the pool is located at the back of the ship and is the first suspended infinity pool at sea. Perfect to hang in the pool with a cocktail and watch the sunset. Next would be the first swim up bar at sea (can never go wrong here!).

Hideaway Pool

Q: What did you think of The Pearl? – A: Definitely another WOW moment. My husband, an engineer, was truly intrigued trying to figure out how it all worked being that it is the world’s largest kinetic art sculpture.

The Pearl

Q: What was the newest thing you saw on the ship that impressed you the most? – A: Not new to the Royal Caribbean brand, but Central Park at night was so magical. The vibrant colors against the night sky stop you in your tracks, is a plant lover’s dream, and provides a nice breeze from several decks above. In terms of most impressive, I have to go back to the elevator system. It may sound silly, but a “why didn’t I think of that”? idea.

Central Park at night

Q: You mentioned you sailed to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas. What do you want to share about the port? – A: It’s a lot bigger than I thought it would be and truly has something for everyone. We really enjoyed partaking in the water park and all the water slides which is something we can’t do together when we have our kids with. If you are a thrill seeker, don’t miss out on Daredevil’s Peak as it is definitely worth the stair climb! If your idea of fun is toes in the sand and drink in hand, there are, I believe seven plus beaches on the island. We tested them all out and even stumbled across Rover, the Icon of the Seas’ Chief Dog Officer.

Daredevil’s Peak at Thrill Waterpark

Rover, the Icon of the Seas’ Chief Dog Officer

Q: Did you do anything special on the island? – A: We were signed up for a snorkel adventure, but unfortunately could not do this because of rough seas. But we did get to go to Hideaway Beach, the island’s adults-only area. We enjoyed elevated snacks, sipping on drinks in the island’s only heated pool which included a big swim up bar, lounging in lounge chairs, and swimming across the lagoon. There is an added cost for Hideaway Beach, but I would recommend it for anyone that likes a relaxed party vibe.

Hideaway Beach

Hideaway Beach Swim-Up Bar

Q: What was your favorite part of Perfect Day at CocoCay? – A: We did really have fun exploring the whole island and think this could be an overnight port with all there is to do. I’d say our favorite would be going back to having fun on the water slides and bringing back some childhood fun as adults.

Q: Is there anything else we did not discuss that you would like to mention? – A: Of course!

            – You have to research Icon of the Seas and all that went into the sustainability when the ship was built. Most notably are the liquified natural gas engines—really awesome advancements onboard to be as eco-friendly as possible.

            – There are lots and lots of storage spaces in the staterooms, a really nice touch.

            – A lot of people I heard couldn’t find the safe in the stateroom, pro top: it’s behind the glass cabinet.

            – Don’t discredit the snack stands on Perfect Day at CocoCay, they were definitely our preference over the buffet.

            – If your pre-paid excursion gets cancelled by Royal Caribbean because of bad weather, they will automatically credit you back to your original form of payment (takes several days, but it does get done).

            – Always pay attention to information provided to you from your transportation company taking you to the pier. I had to help two-couples with transportation back to the Fort Lauderdale pier after they got on our bus to go to The Port of Miami. Thankfully, they made it in the nick of time, but I’d imagine it was so stressful to them (and also another reason to book with your favorite Boscov’s Travel Advisor).

Q: What do you recommend to anyone sailing on the Icon of the Seas? – A: Try a little bit of everything the ship has to offer and really soak in the beauty and memories made with your friends and family.

Q: Would you sail on the Icon of the Seas again? – A: Absolutely, when are we going? ; )

My Personal Experience Onboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s Brand-New Ship the Viva: Q&A Edition

In November 2023, one of our Boscov’s Travel employees went on an inaugural cruise onboard the brand-new Norwegian Viva! Read her incredible experience below:

Norwegian Viva

Q: Was this your first time sailing on Norwegian Cruise Line? – A: No, this was not my first time sailing on Norwegian Cruise Line. I have sailed about six times with them!

Q: Where did you sail to and from? – A: The ship sailed round trip from Miami, Florida to Norwegian’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas.

View of Miami from Norwegian Viva

Q: What stateroom did you stay in? – A: I had a wonderful and cozy balcony stateroom.

Q: What did you love most about the ship? – A: What I loved most about the ship was actually the décor! From the colors and all – it was extremely warm and welcoming.

Q: What surprised you most about the ship? – A: The layout of the ship surprised me the most! It was very different than any other class of Norwegian ships that I’ve been on. The new design is a ‘smart design’ allowing for all the fun to be right in the middle of the ship.

The Atrium

Q: What was your favorite entertainment onboard? – A: My favorite entertainment was definitely the Improv at Sea shows. They were hilarious and I laughed all night. I also played a game in the comedy club with other passengers one day and we all had a great time!

Q: What was your favorite restaurant onboard? – A: I enjoyed Hudson’s Dining Room the most. The design was stunning with floor to ceiling windows and great food. One of the times I ate there, I had the Beef Wellington and it was so tasty and savory. I did not have a meal I didn’t like!

Q: Did you enjoy the Indulge Food Hall concept? – A: I really liked the concept of Indulge Food Hall and have never eaten somewhere like it before. Indulge is an eat around the world concept all in one place. I tried a good bit of the food there and it was delicious! Another neat thing about Indulge is there is not much of a wait time. It felt as if my food was fresh and on the table right after I ordered it!

Indulge Food Hall Outdoor Dining

Q: What was your favorite bar onboard? – A: My absolute favorite bar onboard was the Observation Lounge. I loved the décor there especially and the views! Plus, the drinks were fantastic.

Q: What activities did you do onboard and which was your favorite? – A: I tried out the Viva Speedway (sooo fun!), spent time at the pools and bars, and also played the game at the Improv at Sea as I mentioned. If I have to pick a favorite onboard activity, it would definitely be the Viva Speedway. There were beautiful views of the ocean and it was so fun to zip around three levels of track!

Q: What did you think of the Oceanwalk? – A: The Oceanwalk was pretty neat with how you are able to walk on the glass above the ocean!

Q: Was there anything on the ship you’ve never seen before? – A: There was much on the ship I have never seen before from the Indulge Food Hall, the Viva Speedway and the layout. This ship was so neat and fun!

Q: You mentioned you sailed to Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas. What do you want to share about the port? – A: Great Stirrup Cay is a port where the ship tenders. So once on the island, I had a great time and the weather was beautiful. I was able to take a behind the scenes tour, spend time at the beach, ate and explored the island. The beaches were extremely beautiful, and there were many activities/excursions including ziplining, wave runner tours, shopping, eating, relaxing and more. As the island is private, there were no locals haggling at the beaches which was very nice. Great Stirrup Cay is truly a relaxing port to visit!

Q: Did you go on any excursions? – A: Yes! I was fortunate enough to go on a behind the scenes tour of Great Stirrup Cay which showed us where the employees (who actually live on the island) stay, what they can do when they’re off work, where they shop, and more!

Q: Is there anything else we did not discuss that you would like to mention? – A: The staff onboard the Viva and at Great Stirrup Cay were all very friendly and helpful. They made the cruise even more enjoyable than it already was!

Q: What do you recommend to anyone sailing on the Viva? – A: Definitely, it’s a nice ship whether you’re going for the ship itself or the itinerary.

Q: Would you sail on the Viva again? – A: Yes! Of course.

My Personal Experience on Boscov’s Travel Exclusive Private Non-Stop Charter Flights to Orlando & sailing on an MSC Cruises’ cruise

Recently one of our Boscov’s Travel Advisors took our Boscov’s Travel exclusive private non-stop charter flight to Orlando. Read her incredible experience below.

MSC Cruises’ Seaside

My husband and I went on the Boscov’s Travel exclusive private non-stop Orlando charter the week of October 22, 2023. We weren’t traveling with family this trip so we decided to forego the theme parks in the Orlando area and instead take a relaxing 4-night cruise to the Bahamas along with 2-days in St. Augustine after the cruise.

As a Boscov’s Travel employee, I have taken our charter several times before and it’s always been such a pleasurable experience compared to flying out of the other airports where there’s lots of traffic congestion and extra costs.  The Reading Regional Airport is easy to get to, easy to park (we were right in front of the terminal, mere steps away), and the Boscov’s Travel check-in and TSA security were fast and efficient (all done within a few minutes).  We did not have to pay to park, pay for our seats, or pay for luggage! When you add up all of these costs, these are big savings, plus driving time to the airport is a breeze!

The Southwest Airlines flight crew was friendly and welcoming and our plane ride was very fast and smooth (we arrived early). We were booked on the MSC Cruises’ Seaside sailing to Nassau and Ocean Cay – MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas. We met an MSC Cruises representative shortly after our arrival at the Orlando International Airport and were effortlessly transferred to Port Canaveral (less than an hour ride) where we boarded the ship.

MSC Cruises’ Seaside

We had a cabin in the Yacht Club which is an exclusive ship-within-a-ship experience with excellent service from the ship’s staff (special praise to Jordan, our waiter and Glen, our butler). As part of the Yacht Club experience, a private butler meets you at the pier and escorts you onto the ship bypassing the long lines. We were checked in promptly at their Concierge Desk and were eating a delicious lunch within minutes at their private dining room. Our Yacht Club experience included the Premium Beverage package, unlimited Wi-Fi and complimentary access to the Thermal Spa area.

Nassau Port Terminal

Our first stop was Nassau, Bahamas which has a very nice and new Port Terminal & Shops.  If you traveled to Nassau in the past, you may remember the old straw market and vendors.  This was not a pleasant experience… very claustrophobic and chaotic with lots of pressure from the vendors to buy their wares.  This new Port Terminal & Shops is very clean, bright and organized with lots of open space, beautiful landscaping and friendly vendors. Such a great improvement! After our shopping jaunt, we returned to the ship where I decided to take advantage of the Thermal Spa (my husband went off to explore the ship). I spent two hours experiencing all the features which included a steam room, two saunas (a dry and a European), a snow room, a salt room, a Vitality pool with oxygen-intensified water, an aromatherapy shower and a heated stone lounge chair. I absolutely loved these last four options!

Our next stop was Ocean Cay – MSC Marine Reserve, their private island.  This island was a former industrial site where sand was excavated that MSC reclaimed and restored to its natural beauty. What was nice about this stop was we were here overnight so we didn’t feel rushed and could enjoy a leisurely day and a half at the beach using the ship as our hotel. As part of the Yacht Club, we were escorted off the ship by our private butler (again bypassing the lines) and taken by a dedicated tram to the Ocean House Beach & Restaurant.  The Restaurant was very nice and served several options for lunch including local fish, lobster and tropical drinks.

Bimini Beach

The beach here is pretty, but we decided to walk a short distance to the North Beach which was located on the lagoon and had beautiful calm clear water with a palm tree-lined beach. On our walk we passed Bimini Beach which has a spectacular lighthouse and views. In the evening, the beach is filled with night-life including a beach party and light show!

Casa Monica Resort

Dinner at Forgotten Tonic

We disembarked the ship on Thursday morning and picked up the car rental shuttle at the pier for the next part of our adventure. We got our car then drove to St. Augustine! Our drive took a little over two hours as we took the scenic route rather than major toll-ways. We checked into the Casa Monica Resort (part of the Marriott Autograph Collection), which is a beautiful hotel built in 1888 nestled in the heart of St. Augustine’s Historic District. We spent the afternoon exploring this area which was all within walking distance of our hotel. Later, we had dinner at a quaint little restaurant called Forgotten Tonic. The restaurant reminded us of dining in a cafe on a Mediterranean street.

St. Augustine Historic District

Flagler College Hall

Alcazar Hotel/City

Spanish Moss – Fountain of Youth

Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse in the U.S.A.

The next day we took a narrated sightseeing tour of St. Augustine’s historic landmarks on Ripley’s Red Train tour. A special perk is they offer military and senior discounts, but you must ask for it.  Our driver/guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining as he told us about the history of America’s oldest city.  After this tour, we went back to the Orlando area for our overnight stay at the Embassy Suites-Orlando International Airport. The next day check-in at the airport was easy with the help of the dedicated Southwest staff at the North East Flight Departures ticket counter. We did check in three hours ahead of our flight departure time because security lines at Orlando International Airport can be very long. Our flight back to Reading Regional Airport was again enjoyable with a colorful fall aerial view of Berks County as we arrived back in Reading.

We had a wonderful vacation and the charter was truly the best way to get to Orlando! My personal experience onboard Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas

Recently one of our Boscov’s Travel Advisors took a cruise onboard Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas to the Bahamas and Perfect Day at CocoCay. Read her incredible experience below.

My family and I had recently sailed to the Bahamas and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas! We had such a great time onboard and at the ports! The ship sailed out of Cape Liberty, New Jersey with stops in the ports: Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida; Nassau, Bahamas; and Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas. So far, I have been on all four Oasis class ships, but this was my first Oasis of the Seas sailing after it’s “royal enhancement,” which means the ship has been newly renovated.

On our sailing, we had adjoined Central Park Balcony View Staterooms and the views were stunning as this neighborhood is set with more than 10,000 plants and flowers – a tropical nature sanctuary onboard. For those of you who don’t know, Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class ships have seven different neighborhoods which include the beautiful open-air Central Park, the Royal Promenade where parades and parties take place, the Boardwalk, the Pool and Sports Zone, the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place, and the Youth Zone. All of these neighborhoods are filled with exciting new discoveries and memories to be made.

The food and bars onboard were absolutely incredible. From the main dining room to the specialty dining, you truly can’t go wrong. We decided to visit the specialty restaurant Chops Grill which was absolutely delicious! My favorite part was the lemon meringue pie which was refreshing and tasty.

Our favorite thing on the cruise ship was the water show Aqua80 – we were blown away! The awesome show is at the ship’s AquaTheater with world-class extreme sports athletes performing top-deck high dives, acrobatics and so much more, all to the tunes of the 1980’s! Aqua80 was truly spectacular!  Don’t forget that on the Oasis of the Seas you need to reserve your showtimes a month prior to your departure via the Royal Caribbean International app.

For our favorite port we visited, we all can agree that we loved Perfect Day at CocoCay! We rented a private cabana on the private island down at the South Beach, which is just one of four beaches on Perfect Day at CocoCay. With our private cabana we received VIP service and our own attendant, which made the experience even more relaxing and fun!

We also took an excursion while we were at Perfect Day at CocoCay. We did a swim with the Bahamian pigs excursion, which was so much fun! The pigs themselves range in colors from black to pink and have cute flat button noses that act as a snorkel when they swim. The pigs were very friendly and so excited to spend time with us. We loved every minute of this excursion!

The best part of our experience onboard the Oasis of the Seas was the great pricing we got for the cruise! We actually booked the cruise with our Boscov’s Travel exclusive public group space, which saved us almost 40% off from the retail promotions that the cruise line runs. These are incredibly special deals! Even better? This Boscov’s Travel group space special pricing is available to you, our valued clients all because of our partnership with Royal Caribbean International!

Overall, we truly enjoyed our cruise to the Bahamas and Perfect Day at CocoCay. We love Royal Caribbean International and look forward to future sailings on some of their newly innovated ships that are to be debuted over the next year. I highly recommend cruising with Royal Caribbean as soon as you can, and with our wealth of knowledge, your local Boscov’s Travel Advisor can help you plan your next cruise too.
